Happy Juneteenth!! How are you celebrating today? . . This Juneteenth deff hits different. It’s more significant than any June 19th I’ve experienced in the last 30 years especially because wasn’t a holiday that was celebrated or even acknowledged in my house when I was growing up. Shoot, many of us only learned about this day and it’s significance when we got older. . . Unfortunately, that’s the case for many things in our history. Traditional American curriculum doesn’t teach us A LOT about Black history and a lot of historical moments have also been hidden from us. Let’s make sure we continue to educate ourselves on our rich culture but most of all, let’s make sure we teach the babies. Teach them about the Black history we weren’t taught. Teach them to love the things society doesn’t. Teach them to love their beautiful brown skin (all shades), their kinks and curls, their full lips and everything that makes up their beautiful being. Teach them to love each other and everyone no matter where they come from or what they look like. Teach them to love and not to hate. Teach them to celebrate who they are and be proud ♥️✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿. They need to know how poppin we are no matter what anyone says.

I miss having bangs. Taking a trip down memory lane (SWIPE) with a few photos from Back in 2015-2016 when I was about that bang life. I did weaved bangs and I also wore my real hair in bangs. The only issue with bangs is the up keep and the grow out period. It’s not cute. Maybe I’ll try a wig bang next time. Lol!

Milah, do you think I should apply to medical school this year? My advisor told me I shouldn’t. ⬅️ This is the #1 question I get from premeds 🥺Should I wait another year? Am I competitive enough? If you have checked off all these boxes then you NEED to be applying this cycle. F what your advisor has said. This formula for success has gotten many students into medical school: ▫️If you have atleast a 500 MCAT score ▫️Average science GPA (atleast) ▫️Clinical experience (shadowing & or working) ▫️Leadership (literally anything) ▫️Work/ Internship experience (are you an adult orrr..) ▫️Outstanding Letters of Recommendation ▫️Non-medical related activities ▫️Something that makes you stand out (don’t be basic, be acidic) ▫️Your WHY (physician vs PA vs nurse vs dentist, biomedical research, etc) ▫️Research is suggested but not necessary (I highly recommend & it doesn’t HAVE to be boring bench research) ✔️If you have these checked then you don’t have any “gaps in your application” and you should be applying! What if you don’t have the numbers? Post-bac (official or self-made) & or masters programs. I did a post bac and in 1 year I built myself up to be a solid applicant. I don’t want to see any more premeds holding back trying to get perfect applications when it’s not needed. Don’t be discouraged because an advisor said you need more.
